CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi police are searching for a man who was spotted driving at a high rate of speed and crashed into a chain-link and wooden fence.

The incident happened just before 3 pm on Tuesday at the intersection of McArdle Road and Bernice Drive.

According to Lieutenant Nicholas Kless, with the Corpus Christi police department, an officer spotted a gray vehicle traveling down McArdle Road, going at least 100 miles per hour. When the officer tried to catch up and pull over the car, the car slammed into a chainlink fence and also struck a wooden fence.

Police say the driver of the car got out, dropped a gun, and fled from the scene. Officers surrounded the area while a CCPD K-9 unit was called over to search for the suspect.

Lt. Kless said the driver of the car left his ID inside the vehicle. Officers added they found a large amount of marijuana also inside of the vehicle.

The suspect was described wearing blue shorts and wearing a black t-shirt.

Update 11:50 p.m.: CCPD says the driver was arrested and will face several charges including evading arrest.
