CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Most drivers who travel Everhart Road know traffic can build up quick. Driving conditions are about to be more hectic.
The Everhart Reconstruction Project from Holly to SP.I.D. will start in a couple of months. The intersection at Bonner and Everhart will be completely closed for at least a month, possibly up to two months, according to the City.
Businesses along the route were already preparing for construction but the news of the intersection closure now has them concerned the project will have an even bigger negative impact on their bottom line.
Gutierrez runs the Taqueria Jalisco No. 4 on Everhart.
"We are just asking for our customers to be supportive of us and understanding of the situation. You know, all the streets go through this so we're just hoping for the best," said Gladys Gutierrez.
The closure will help speed up the underground utility replacement at the intersection. The City will put up detour signs and signs for the intersection as the start of the project gets closer. The entire project is expected to take about a year and half to complete.
