CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A major mystery sits in a local backyard: burial site or just a grave?

Those are the questions new homeowners are asking after finding what appears to be a grave in their backyard.

The married couple lives on Nile Road and only have been in this home for three weeks.

Whatever it is, they say, it's got to go.

“My first time buying a home, and this is a big shock to me,” says homeowner Roy Tyler Jr.

Most backyards have an air conditioning unit, trees, or a fence.

Not U.S. military veteran Roy Tyler Jr's property.

The markings on the site are tough to make out, but Tyler was able to find numbers that could be a date: 1-3-71.

Tyler said when he bought the home from the local Veteran Affairs office, he wasn't told about this.

"I really wasn't upset, but it was stunning that they would do this through the VA, coming out and checking everything and then selling the home without telling knowing it was on the property," Tyler said.

Tyler called Corpus Christi Police Department officers immediately to check the site.

He said he believes there's a body among the leaves and sticks. He said the officer was just as shocked as he was.

Tyler was told the home was built in the 1960s, yet has no knowledge of any of the home's previous owners.

This homeowner advises others who are looking for a home to be careful.

Law enforcement officials anticipate being on-site again to investigate what, if anything, is in the apparent grave.
