PREMONT, Texas — Next week is the first week of early voting. Residents in Premont get to vote on a bond package of 4.1 million dollars for the school district.

If approved, the funds would help to renovate classrooms at the collegiate high school which was built in the early 1970's.

The band hall and restrooms would also get some much needed upgrades, Security is also a major concern and this bond would provide enhanced security. Superintendent of schools Steve VanMatre said he hopes to improve the status of security.

"We're still not as safe as what i am comfortable with" He said "as you know any superintendent will tell you, our most important priority is student and staff safety."

Residents are not expected to see a tax increase.

"We're convinced that 4.1 million, even though it is not enough, it will make a big dent in moving forward." VanMatre said.
