There was some high drama aboard the U.S.S. Lexington Museum this morning.

A museum crewmember was doing some maintenance work on the mast around 11 a.m. when he started feeling ill from the heat.

The area where he was working is about 200 feet high so getting the man down took some planning.

“He was up there with all of his safety gear but unfortunately he was dehydrated and so we wanted to make sure he could get down safely,” said Steve Banta, executive director of the U.S.S. Lexington Museum. “So we had some other crew members go up and assist him on the way down and then the EMT'S met him at the platform.”

The crewmember was treated at the scene and was giving some fluids so he could get rehydrated. He didn’t want to go to the hospital, he just needed a break from the heat.

By the way, firefighters and medics train on board the Lexington Museum for rescue situations like today's.
