CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Department still has a few more part-time vacancies to fill.
The City's Latchkey Program offers a safe and supervised environment for young children after they get out of school. The program is offered at various elementary school campuses across the city.
On Wednesday, Lisa Oliver with Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation said the city needed to fill 36 part-time vacancies. The goal was to fill those vacancies before Corpus Christi ISD's first day of school on Aug. 26.
Oliver said after recent media coverage of the program's need to fill those positions, several people applied. As of this morning, they only have 16 part-time positions to fill. Those who were just hired begin their two-day training on Monday.
The Parks and Recreation Department are hoping to fully staff the Latchkey Program soon, so that new hires can undergo training.
Meanwhile, the city is asking those who enjoy working with elementary school age kids to apply. The job pays about $10 an hour and the hours are 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
