City of Corpus Christi Mayor Joe McComb's son is a new father.
"She’s a bundle of hope and joy and faith that everybody needs right now and especially us,” Jonathan McComb said.
The new arrival comes about five years after historic flooding in Wimberley killed McComb's wife and his two children.
McComb's current wife gave birth to 7-pound, 4-ounce Scarlett Grace on Friday.
The atmosphere at the hospital was different than what the couple expected because of precautionary measures intended to ward off the coronavirus.
“(The coronavirus) is always in the back of your mind," McComb said. "From the moment we got there they take your temperature. They give you masks, which was a little different walking in and going to deliver a baby with a mask on. As soon as we got to the (delivery) room we could take those off and be ourselves."
“I definitely think it’s a little different," his wife Monika McComb said. "(It's) not what you expect not to have all your family and friends there -- not to be able to meet your new baby at the hospital."
Because of coronavirus-concerns, family and friends haven't been able to visit the new family, but are able to meet the new member via video-chat.
The couple is also looking at the Stay-at-Home Order issued by the city, county, and state as a good thing for their young family.
"There’s a silver lining that we get to have this time to the three of us and get to relax a little bit more and all bond together," Monika McComb said.
