DPS public information officer Nathan Brandley has confirmed two people have died in a head-on collision one mile from Kingsville.

The accident, which reportedly happened at about 11 a.m. Monday on State Highway 141 near US 281, took place when the driver of an Infiniti failed to stay in her westbound lane.

After crossing over into the eastbound lane, the driver of the Infiniti hit a Chevrolet Impala, hitting in head-on in the road's shoulder.

The driver of the Impala, 73-year-old Eloy Soliz, and his passenger, 60-year-old Maria Guadalupe Gonzalez, both died at the scene.

They were both Benavides residents.

The Infiniti driver was transported to a Corpus Christi hospital via HALO-Flight.

Brandley said her injuries are serious, but she is stable condition.

The accident is still being investigated.
