Representatives from our local District Attorney's Office and the people from the Legal Professions Association at Del Mar College volunteered at the Coastal Bend Food Bank yesterday.

A total of 45 volunteers, including Mark Gonzalez, Matt Manning, prosecutors and staff from the District Attorney's Office, and the Legal Professions Association at Del Mar College came together to take action in the community.

Volunteers managed to pack up 792 backpacks in an hour, for 264 cases in the backpack initiative. The backpacks are for children in our community identified as "food insecure."

District Attorney Mark Gonzalez challenged other local establishments to give an hour of their time as well.

"We are gonna count the bags that we actually have today and we are gonna challenge maybe the Sherriff's Department to come out one day and see if they can beat us: maybe CCPD if they want to come out and beat us. Maybe the Fire Department or Robstown PD," Gonzalez said.
