CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A disturbing video has been released by the Corpus Christi Police Department and it shows a woman abusing a young child.

Police say they are in the early stages of this investigation, as they are trying to put the pieces to the puzzle together.

In the video you can see a woman sitting, and even at one point, standing on a small child.

And what is even more heartbreaking is that you can hear the child screaming and gasping for air.

CCPD has released the video and is trying to track down the woman seen in those clips.

Officers say the video appeared in a local Facebook closed group called "Corpus Christi Trash 2 Treasure."

Police also say they're unsure if the video originated in Corpus Christi or outside their jurisdiction.

They are even looking into when the incident happened.

“It’s a difficult process because obviously, we can't go to another country to investigate a crime, you know our jurisdiction lies within the city limits of Corpus Christi but we can always pass on that information to other agencies,” Corpus Christi Police Department Lt. Michael Pena says.

Officers say they have received a multitude of messages from concerned citizens with some even doing their own research.

As for the person who posted the video, officers say they have spoken to her and can confirm that this was an older woman who did not commit this abuse.

They also believe that she had no involvement in taking this video.

Officers need your help.

They have released an image of a tattoo on the woman's leg.

Police hope this will help identify the woman who was seen sitting on that child.

Police also say when something like this video is shared online and if there are concerns, citizens are encouraged to reach out to police right away.

Officers say their Facebook page is not monitored 24/7.

If you have any information on the identity of the woman call police or Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS.
