CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Workers with the Coastal Bend Blood Center say they are in dire need of donations.

Employees with the Blood Center say they have a goal that they need to meet daily and with folks coming in to donate, that goal can be achieved.

Betsy Zamarron says she understands the need of giving blood and that this act can save not just one life but many.

Zamarron says that is why her and friends do their best to make make an effort to donate.

Workers with the Coastal Bend Blood Center say if you have never donated blood before not to panic because it is a simple and easy process.

The blood center has a daily goal of needing to see at least 120 donations.

“I do advise the community to come out because you never know when it’s your family member that will need blood and you'll never know when you go to the hospital and you need that donation that's not something you want to be worried about,” says Betsy Zamarron.

Staff also add that a common misconception is that blood is stored for life.

However, that's not the case, workers say blood has a shelf life for only 42 days.

To help with donations the Blood Center is hosting their seventeenth annual Boots n Badges blood drive.

This is a friendly competition between the local police officers against the fire department to see who can gain the most donations.

This event will take place July 16th, 2019 at Whataburger Field from 5-7pm.
