CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coast Guard rescued two kayakers near Rockport on Monday. Deteriorating weather was blamed for the man and woman becoming stranded.

In a press release, Coast Guard District 8 said the kayakers were on Grass Island when the cold front blew in. The Rockport Police Department notified the Coast Guard around 5:50 p.m. that the two kayakers were in distress. Winds were nearly 30 miles per hour. There were one to three-foot seas and the water temperature was 45 degrees.

The Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi deployed a helicopter crew to pull them up out of the water. The kayakers were checked out at the Aransas County Airport and were reported to be in good condition.

The Coast Guard advises mariners to continually monitor the forecast, file a float plan with a family member or friend and make sure they have the proper safety gear before launching.
