CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — Corpus Christi firefighters are battling a house fire that broke out next to a home that was damaged from a previous house fire last night.

The fire broke out inside of an attic in the 6000 block of Edgewater Drive around 2:25 am Thursday.

Police officers said the fire was discovered by officers with the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Police Department.

Captain Gabriel Castro, with the Corpus Christi Fire Department, said, "The house is under construction and with the new construction and old construction, there were a lot of void spaces and it made it a hard time for us."

Captain Castro said there was also ammunition inside of the garage but thankfully, nothing went off.

Firefighters were able to get that fire under control around 3:50 am Thursday.

The home previously caught fire yesterday when another house caught fire on New Year's Day. While the cause of that fire has not yet been determined, investigators say fireworks may be to blame.
