CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For many students, the new school year will be fast approaching and that means it will be time to start shopping for school supplies.

For many families, buying supplies for their children can be stressful.

A local business, Mattress By Appointment located at 1308 Ayers St, is stepping up to help.

“I thought the kids they are our future, we should help them out,” says Kenny Amado.

Business owner and Corpus Christi native Kenny Amado says he realizes that for many folks, shopping for school supplies for their children can be a challenge.

With that in mind, he is wanting to help, so every student who is in need can have a successful school year.

This is why he is taking part in Operation S.O.S.

Members of the community can stop by and donate as well.

“They have the supplies they can excel they can be there with all the other kids they can make something of themselves a little better, they're not having to worry about how are they going to get that next sheet of paper, that pen to be able to take those notes and do that,” says Amado.

The summer of 2019 is the first year that Amado has taken part in a school supply drive.

Amado has teamed up with United Way of the Coastal Bend who will collect the items.

The donated supplies will be disbursed across ten counties in the Coastal Bend area to different school districts.

Amado will be taking school donations until Friday, July 26th, 2019.
