There are restrictions for Nueces Co. beaches for the Fourth of July weekend, but if you're a boater, there are still a number of areas to access the water.

On Friday afternoon, plenty of boaters were out at Packery Channel taking advantage of the great weather and the holiday weekend.

"We went out under the bridge, up in the Laguna Madre, just fishing some points out there," said Wesley Ialacci, who was visiting from Conroe. "We were fishing a few trout, some sheep head, and just having some fun."

Ialacci told KRIS 6 he doesn't mind that restrictions are in place, and he understands people are just trying to stay safe.

Access to city and county beaches will be limited for the Fourth of July weekend because of the statewide and local spike in COVID-19 cases.

An order banning vehicular access to Nueces County bay and gulf beaches went into effect Friday morning at 6 a.m. and ends at 6 a.m. July 7.

The restrictions also include golf carts and all-terrain vehicles.
