Corpus Christi police have identified the victim of a fatal accident Sunday night on the city's southside.

The victim has been identified as Rachel DeLeon, 45, of Corpus Christi.

The accident happened just after 9:00 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Timbergate Drive and Staples Street.

According to Corpus Christi Police Lt. Timothy Frazier, a jeep traveling northbound along Staples drove up to the intersection when it struck by another vehicle that was trying to turn onto Timbergate Drive from Staples Street.

Investigators said DeLeon was driving the Jeep died at the scene. Police at the scene said the woman was not wearing her seat belt and have determined alcohol did not play a factor in the crash.

Two people were inside the other vehicle involved in the crash. One person was taken to the hospital by ambulance while family members took the other to the hospital.

Corpus Christi police are looking at surveillance video that recorded the fatal crash.

As a result of the crash, police shut down the southbound lanes on Staples Street near Timbergate Drive after the accident due to their investigation.
