A homicide investigation is underway in Mathis tonight.  Police there are looking into the death of a man in his 80’s.

Police Chief Scott Roush says that police received a call at 4:16 p.m. of a possible deceased body.  The body was found behind a vacant building on the 100 block of North Bee Street this evening.  Police tell us the victim had suspicious injuries which is why they are investigating the incident as a homicide.  Chief Roush says the man was a Mathis local and was last seen at 6 a.m.  He was not living where police found the body.

Chief Roush says they will not release any other information until an autopsy is completed.  Next of kin will be notified.

The Mathis Police Department asks that anyone with any information about this case call the police department.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
