What began as a series of break-ins at several West Side homes this morning ended in a rollover accident on the Crosstown Expressway.

Police say a man broke into two homes on Cornelia Circle around 5:45 a.m.

One homeowner heard that man break into his home. He had his gun ready for a meeting with the intruder.

He says he didn’t shoot because he thought the intruder was his son.

When he realized it wasn’t him, he forced him out the front door.

The suspect broke into a second home through a window, where he then got into a fight with the homeowner.

The homeowner threw him out of a window.

The intruder made his getaway by stealing a car from a woman who was dropping off her baby.

That led to a police chase on the Crosstown Expressway.

“He was racing down the highway at a high rate of speed, ended up rear ending the red truck, causing the red truck to veer off the highway onto the service road, and it spun out on the highway,” said Whitney Winsett of the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Both the suspect and the other driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The suspect is facing a long list of charges.
