These days it seems teenagers’ favorite pastime is perusing social media as much as possible.  That’s why Veterans Memorial High School decided to host a social media safety class to educate students and teachers on the dangers of online networking.

Katrina Barnes is a parent liaison who says she heard about a special agent from homeland security who teaches students and parents about social media safety and invited him to speak with parents.   W. Heath Hardwick has spoken to students and parents across the Coastal Bend about how to be aware of potential dangers on social media.

“He actually went into detail about a lot of the apps and some of the dangers that were within them, and he went over some of the cases that he’s actually had. But he brought in all these other different apps that the kids are using today,” said Barnes.

The school invited parents and students from other schools to attend.
