Hundreds of people gathered in Edroy, Texas this morning to begin their eight-day trek across South Texas. Eleven wagons and 29 horseback riders set off for the 60th Annual South Texas Trail Ride today.
Cowboys, Cowgirls, muleskinners, and people in carriages and buggies left Edroy around 8 a.m. stopped at Tynan for the night for some supper and singing by the Darrin Brown Band. The group continues on to Beeville tomorrow. They eventually arrive in San Antonio in time for the start of the 70th Annual Stock & Show Rodeo.
Overall participation in the annual ride has declined in recent years s o organizers are inviting everybody and anybody to be a part of this tradition. It’s $60.00 for adults and $20.00 for children. This helps cover meals 3 times a day for 8 days. Sponsors host the riders for meals and entertainment.
“The purpose of the South Texas Trail Riders Inc. is social and was formed to stimulate, promote and encourage the love of horses, riding, family and good fellowship, to also perpetuate the memory of the original trail riders, and to promote the interests of livestock raising & agriculture,” said Vesley.
