Corpus Christi Police have released video of officers and civilians working together to aid the occupants of a vehicle that caught fire following a New Year’s Day accident.

According to police, Richard Isaiah Lopez was driving the wrong way on SPID when he slammed into an SUV near the Staple Street exit.

A 70-year-old man in the SUV that was hit was pinned for a short time and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Three other people in the SUV, a 47-year-old female, a 21-year-old male and a 20-year-old female, also received non-life threatening injuries.

Lopez died at the scene.

Police commended the officers and civilians for saving the life of the 70-year-old male, saying he would not have survived without their heroic efforts.

Police say alcohol was likely a contributing factor in the crash.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist with the family’s medical expenses, donations can be made here  GR Serna’s Medical Bills .
