A whole army of volunteers served meals early Thursday at the annual Joe Salem Thanksgiving feast.

It’s a meal that some people might not otherwise have. The Joe Salem Thanksgiving day dinner has been providing the people of Nueces County for 75 years.

Hundreds of people packed the Sokol Corpus Christi Gym on Koztoryz, for what many of them consider a family tradition.

“It started out, we were bringing the youth from our church to teach them the idea of giving instead of getting, and then after so long it kinda stuck with me,” Sherriel Curtis said.

The come one, come all event included a turkey leg, sides, drinks, and of course, dessert.

One of the youngest volunteers at the event said giving back is his favorite part of the holiday season.

“I’m most excited for actually giving because we have a home. We have a roof on top of us. I think this whole point is to give to the poor and the homeless people,” Brayden McNabb said.
