The man who was killed while trying to cross Clarkwood Rd. on foot has been identified as 23-year-old Richard Cruz.
Lt. Timothy Frazier with the Corpus Christi Police Department said Cruz and another man were walking along Clarkwood Road when they darted in front of an oncoming car, possibly to get across the road.
The 22-year-old driver who was going southbound on Clarkwood was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the two men.
Cruz was pronounced dead at the hospital. The 22-year-old is in critical but stable condition.
The driver stopped to wait for police to arrive, according to Frazier. He also told us that the area is extremely dark and the pedestrians were at fault. No citations will be issued at this time.
