Flags for Heroes along city bayfront

Waves of flags along the city bayfront are catching lots of attention.  The Rotary Club of Corpus Christi has begun its fundraiser, Flags for Heroes.

This week, Ropes Park and Oleander Point on Ocean Drive will feature a patriotic tribute to heroes.  But the heroes aren’t just first responders or military.  The Rotary Club is encouraging everyone to participate by honoring a personal hero of theirs.

For $50, you can sponsor a flag at the park.  A tag will be placed on your flag with the name of a hero you want to honor.

The event will go on the remainder of this week and it coincides with 9/11.

“We’re doing this not just in honor of our military heroes and our first responders. But in honor of anyone who is a hero of a citizen of our community. Heroes come in all shapes and form and that’s who we are honoring,” said Crystal Mead with the Rotary Club.

660 flags are currently up at both Ropes Park and Oleander Point at Cole Park.  The flags will be removed on Sunday.
