The Aransas County School District now has dozens of new trees thanks to a donation by TXU Energy. Hurricane Harvey destroyed thousands of trees in the Rockport area. Today, TXU donated 40 trees to the district and held a tree planting ceremony at Rockport-Fulton Middle School. All of the trees are species native to this area.
“So we want to make sure that we plant very resilient and very tough trees for Texas, so we’re not bringing in other species that are not used to this kind of climate that may go three to six, maybe eight months without a drink of water,” said Tyler Wright with Texas Trees Foundation.
The storm destroyed about 20% of the area’s trees. Some of them lost at landfall and others, that were damaged, continued to die-off for months after the storm.
