Hurricane Harvey made a direct hit on the Coastal Bend one year ago today.
Harvey, a major category 4 hurricane, made landfall on the northern end of San Jose Island, about 5 miles east of Rockport, Texas. Many residents are still making daily efforts to recover from the storm.
There are many events happening around the Coastal Bend today for residents to take time to reflect on the last year and show support for those still recovering.
Port Aransas will host a Hurricane Harvey Day of Remembrance at Robert Pointe’s Park beginning from 9 a.m. Until 10 a.m. During the ceremony, Port Aransas first responders will be presented with flags for their service during the storm.
At 7:30 p.m. a prayer and flag ceremony will be held for the community at Robert’s Pointe Park.
Tomorrow, Sunday, August 26, Port Aransas will hold a Recovery Celebration Service at 6 p.m. at the park.
