Voters are flocking to polling places across Nueces County to cast their ballots early.
According to the most recent vote count compiled by the Nueces County Clerk's office, 53,742 voters already have cast ballots in person and by mail through the close of Saturday's voting.
That early five-day total is up 63.7 percent over the corresponding five-day figure in the 2016 election.
And the lowest number of in-person and mail voters in any of the five days so far - 7,401 on Saturday - is more than any day but the final one in 2016 early voting and also more than in any day but the final one in either the 2012 or 2008 elections.
That five-day total in 2020 represents 25.42 percent of the total number of 211,145 registered voters in Nueces County.
The voting has remained strong during the first five days of early voting. Here are the early number of in-person and mail ballots by day.
- Tuesday Oct. 13 - 10,865
- Wednesday Oct. 14 - 10,408
- Thursday Oct. 15 - 9,208
- Friday Oct. 16 - 9,762
- Saturday Oct. 17 - 7,401
The total after five days is 53,742. That total is more than 75 percent of the total of early voters in the 2016 local election when 71,056 local ballots were cast.
The most votes have been cast at Veterans Memorial High School where 3,307 already have voted. The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Center is second with 3,227 votes cast.
The lowest voting turnout after five days has been at Hattie Martin Elementary School of the Robstown ISD with 418 votes cast and the Banquete ISD with 430.
Early voting will continue through Friday, Oct. 30.
