A 22-year-old man shot and killed last night by a Corpus Christi police officer has been identified as Emilio Mojica.
It happened on Cuiper Street in the area of Horne and Gollihar roads, near Fannin Elementary.
CCPD told KRIS Communications that when officers arrived, the suspects had a baseball bat in his hand and was being aggressive.
The man walked toward Cuiper Park, ignoring several commands to drop the bat.
Four officers who were following the man all fired their TASERS, which reportedly had no effect.
The man continued to be aggressive and that's when one officer fired his weapon, hitting him. He later died at a local hospital.
Corpus Christi Police Chief Michael Markle says what happened is unfortunate.
"It's tragic, my heart goes out to the family," he said. "My heart goes out to the officers involved in this. This is never a good thing for the police department and the community. We want to work together through this.”
Markle also said several witnesses are being interviewed at this time.
The four police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
Markle also said the FBI has been called in to help with the investigation.
