CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi American Federation of Teachers is requesting that schools in Nueces County delay the start of the upcoming school year until after the Labor Day holiday and preferably Sept. 8.

Dr. Nancy Vera, president of the Corpus Christi American Federation of Teachers, said she

"It is incumbent upon us to take bold and courageous steps at this time for the lives of all our community members," Vera said. "This is the humanitarian thing to do."
