The Refugio Independent School District Board of Trustees voted Friday that students participating in remote learning because of COVID-19 will be required to come back to campus for instruction.

The change is scheduled to take effect Oct. 19 -- a week from Monday.

Parents who don't want their child to participate in face-to-face learning are encouraged to homeschool or transfer to a neighboring school district, according to the letter.

The school said in the letter that it reserves the option to revert back to remote instruction if case counts rise, but that only students who are quarantined or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 will be allowed to continue learning remotely.

The district said it believes the move is best for academic success.
