Recent stay-at-home orders is giving local outdoorsmen and women a bit of cabin fever. Some of them have contacted the KRIS 6 News newsroom to find out if, and where, they might be able to get some time on the water

Good news: We've got an answer for you.

Residents are able to fish anywhere in Nueces county, except Port Aransas, where the mayor has said it’s prohibited.

That means fishing is allowed at places like Bob Hall Pier, the JFK Causeway, and Padre Island National Sea Shore.

Many are taking advantage of fishing being considered a “daily essential activity” while the stay-at-home order is in place.

“We're out here fishing with the kids trying to change things up a little bit trying to get them out of the house,” said Michael Russek who was enjoying a day of fishing with his two kids.

However, there are a few rules: social distancing is necessary; vehicles must be parked at least 100 ft. away from each other; beach access may be limited, and there's an 8 p.m. curfew.

Meanwhile, those like Russek don’t seem to mind parking that far from other vehicles.

“It's actually kind of nice when you're fishing like this to have about 100 feet,” said Russek. “Because you don't tangle up lines so there's a benefit to it.”
