CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — All across the Coastal Bend teachers are resorting to different methods of teaching as the coronavirus causes school closures.

But, one Flour Bluff teacher is still helping her students all the way from home.

Monday through Friday Flour Bluff high school teacher Audreana Underbrink is running her lesson plan as usual.

Only now, she’s running it from her house.

“The students still need to continue their learning while all of this craziness is unfolding around us,” said Underbrink.

She teaches Digital Media and Principles of Art.

But as schools remain closed in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, Underbrink says holding lectures through video chat is what’s keeping her students on top of their curriculum.

“It’s been interesting to watch the students at various levels being able to go directly to their independent work and not really need any help as well as those who are like okay I get what you’re teaching me but how do I put that onto the computer,” said Underbrink.

She creates worksheets for her students using google forms. Other teachers send out PDF worksheets and just have their students write down their answers, take a picture and send it back. Either way, they’re getting things done.

And students who don’t have access to the internet are not left behind.

“I know spectrum had reached out to the community and said that they were offering wifi to any grade school students in the home that doesn’t have wifi,” said Underbrink.

“Its been phenomenal, from the teachers and students they’ve bee communicating with each other, saying hey I’m struggling, or hey I need help or I get it do you need me to help somebody else.”

“They’re making those offers of generosity to their peers that you don’t always see in the classroom.”

Underbring says flour bluff has also issued out laptops and computers so that every student have access to the equipment they need.
