A local gameroom saw how seriously the Corpus Christi Police Department is taking enforcement of the county's stay-at-home order. Police issued citations and made arrests at a facility still fully operating.
On Sunday around 2:40 p.m., officers went to a game room located on the 4600 block of Weber Rd. Officers where they found the gameroom still operating as normal with customers inside.
CCPD said this wasn't the first time the game room was open while the stay-at-home order has been in effect. On a previous visit, officers said they educated the management and customers about the order, but police said the business' owners continued to disregard the order.
Police issued 16 citations for 'Violation of Order to Stay-At-Home,' and 4 people were arrested for unrelated outstanding warrants. Violations are punishable by up to $500. A second offense after warning may result in a fine of up to $1,000 per violation or separate day of violation or up to 180 days in jail.
CCPD said they would rather not cite or arrest anyone for violations of the order, and are hoping to educate to individuals and business owners about the order if someone is caught violating it.
Officers have made multiple checks to several businesses and most have complied after the police visit. The executive order is in effect until April 30.
