The start of the new school year for the Corpus Christi Independent School District is set to kick off Thursday morning.

However, classes will look a little different as students move to online learning rather than the in-class face to face setting.

COVID-19 has forced CCISD and its students to adjust, using the internet for class lessons.

The district has already purchased 6,500 Chromebooks to lend to students who may not have a way to access the internet, with another 8,000 to 12,000 on order.

Laptops will be limited to one per CCISD student household. For students who don't have the technology they need for the first day of learning, schools will work with those students to ensure they don't fall behind.

Wi-Fi Hotspots are also available for students if needed.

The first batch of Chromebooks were paid for through the district-approved expenditures and will be on loan to the families who need them at no cost to them. The Texas Education Agency is matching funds donated by local businesses to purchase future supplies when needed.
