Bob Hall Pier has been closed until further notice.
Visitors to the prominent Corpus Christi landmark were greeted by a sign on Wednesday saying they could not enter the pier.
Nueces Co. Director of Coastal Parks Scott Cross said there was a man fishing on the pier Wednesday who mentioned having been exposed to COVID-19. Another fisherman reported what was said to a Corpus Christi Police Department officer, and after a county parks maintenance worker noticed that social-distancing rules also were not being followed, the pier was closed.
The man's claim was not able to be verified, but the pier is being closed as a precautionary measure. It was only open as long as anglers stayed at least 6 feet apart from each other. Cross also said the pier will not be cleaned.
The closing comes as Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales has said she is strongly considering closing county parks and beaches to be in step with Gov. Abbott closing of state parks.
The City of Corpus Christi has indicated they want to be in step with the county.
