On Monday, Gov. Greg Abbott ordered that all Texas residents who live in nursing homes get tested for COVID-19. Nueces County began testing nursing homes Thursday.

During Thursday's daily press briefing, the County announced that three area nursing facilities have been tested so far. The names of the facilities were not disclosed. Those tests yielded 3 positive cases and 1 probable positive. Probable positive is a new designation for cases where patients test negative for the virus but are presenting all of the symptoms. The County also confirmed that two of the three positive tests were from the same facility where a health care worker was recently diagnosed with the novel coronavirus .

Nueces County Judge Barbara Canales said crews will test more than 1,000 residents and employees at more than 40 facilities , including 16 local nursing homes, 12 assisted living facilities and 15 long-term living facilities. Everyone will be tested within 14 days.
