CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Unwrapping a gift is sometimes the most exciting part of Christmas for a child.
A World for Children -- a child placement agency for foster kids -- is in need of your help this holiday season.
They have to wrap 250 presents by the end of the week, but they don't have nearly enough wrapping paper.
"We did have our 75 children that got sponsored through A World of Children," A World for Children Area Director Kristal Quiroga said. "Now that does not include children who come into foster care throughout the holidays."
Quiroga said they are also accepting toy donations for the children who may arrive through out the month.
"Something easy we like to give our kids are gift cards," she said.
She said they aim to give each child three gifts. The age range is from newborns to 18-year-olds.
Outside the need for wrapping paper there is also a definite need for foster parents.
"Here is Nueces County we have about 500 kids that are placed in foster care," Quiroga said.
She said A World for Children covers 19 counties in the area referred to as Region 11. She said in addition to the holidays the charity is trying to provide for their foster children all year long.
"We're constantly looking for sponsors and for donors to help provide normalcy for our foster kids," Quiroga said.
Sarah Villanueva, the charity's case manager, said when it comes to applying to become a foster parent it takes a special person.
"But our agencies support our foster parents every step of the way," Villanueva said. "All of our case managers you can call at anytime if you need help. We have a very good support system."
Quiroga said those interested in donating wrapping paper or gifts can drop them off at 5151 Flynn Pkwy Ste. 511.
She said they are also willing to pick up donations. You can also contact A World for Children regarding donations and fostering information at (361) 289-8887 or on Facebook: A World for Children Corpus Christi .
