CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Islanders are throwing up their shakas over Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi recently being named the #1 College by the Sea according to Best College Reviews.

Our Action 10 news team spoke to students about the recognition. The news wasn't a big surprise. That's because many say they had the option to go to any university in the country... world even, but all said they couldn't resist the Island University, better known as Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

According to Best College Reviews, all of the top five colleges on the list are less than a mile away from the beach. The list displayed a total of fifty campuses located from one end of the country's coast to the other. That includes colleges in California and Florida.

But TAMU-CC beat out all of them to be named number one and recognized as the only college with its own island.

“Yeah I definitely think since it is part of the Texas A&M family of colleges it is a really great school and it's really surprising but it is in Corpus Christi, so I don't think many people think to look here when they are trying to pick a college but as a local we know what this place is like,” one student told us.

The school's proximity to the water is a big seller for most students but it's not the only winning factor.

The review called the college unique lauding the school for providing students with lots of opportunities to take up marine recreational activities like sailing, windsurfing, fishing, beach exploration and more while receiving a top notch education. The school also boasts rapid research development and marine-based education.

Bonus, TAMU-CC was also recognized for having more than eighty of the most popular degree programs in the state.
