CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Pregnancy Center of the Coastal Bend is having a Christmas diaper giveaway, which executive director Jana Pinson said is unusual for the organization.

"We usually do diaper drives," she said.

The center is inviting new parents to come tour its newest office from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday at 13723 Northwest Blvd. suite 110.

"We've had such an incredible response on Facebook and we're expecting a lot of people," she said.

Staff will discuss its first-aid, and hold parenting classes.

Those who tour the facility -- which opened in October -- will receive a free box of diapers.

"At Christmas, it's hard on parents," Pinson said. "They're trying to get toys and they are trying to get food and they are trying to pay for diapers. So we are hoping this will bless our families in the Coastal Bend."

The winner of the grand-prize drawing will win a box of diapers every month for a year.

"People have asked and said, 'Do I need documentation?' " Pinson said. "No, we are going to ask some questions to see what your parenting needs are."

She said all their services -- including pregnancy tests and ultrasounds -- are free.

"We have so many girls who have been single moms, or moms in need, who have traveled -- sometimes as many as 40 miles -- to get to us and to the center in Corpus."

Those who regularly attend the parenting class can receive up to two-dozen diapers every week, along with four outfits for their child.

She said they also cater to fathers who are in need.

Pinson said in the next couple of years, the Pregnancy Center of the Coastal Bend hopes to open another location on Ennis Joslin near Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
