CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — If you want to help feed families in need this Thanksgiving -- the power is in the palm of your hand.
An online delivery app is gearing up for the holiday and you can help.
Waitr wants to feed 4,000 families nationwide this year, doubling their efforts from last year.
The food delivery app has been serving Corpus Christi for the past two years.
"We're basically an online ordering system," Waitr Business Development Manager Jeff Lacomb said. "You can choose online ordering, go pick up food yourself or you can get delivery."
The Waitr app just launched its five week "Share Thanksgiving Food Drive Campaign."
Lacomb said the Corpus Christi market has been very generous and they want to give back.
"Any orders that are placed in the app," Lacomb said. "It's all going to go towards donations, towards helping get these meals together so we can feed some local families here in the area."
From now until Nov. 22, anyone who uses the Waitr app to order food from their favorite restaurant will help contribute to the cause.
"And we are going to do the deliveries the week of Thanksgiving. That Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday."
Next month Waitr will also finalize their partnership with restaurants that will help. United Way will help Waitr select those families in need.
The food app -- which was created in 2015 -- said they are also relying on the public to help find those families that could use a free Thanksgiving meal this holiday season.
"If you know of any families that you think might need the help as well, they can go to Waitrapp.com and they can make the suggestion," Lacomb said.
Waitr recently acquired another food delivery company Bite Squad. Both connect local restaurants to hungry diners in undeserved U.S. markets.
“Our goal is to ensure no one in our community goes hungry this Thanksgiving,” Waitr Market Development Director Whitney Savoie said in a news release. “If we can play a part in spreading a little bit of joy – even if it’s just in a small way like bringing them a hot meal, it’s worth it.”
