CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — We all know libraries are filled with books that you can check out. But now there's a local library that lets you not only check out books, but cake pans too!
A quick trip to the library to check out a book, is usually a piece of cake.
But, how about taking home 'actual' cake?
You and your family could be baking cookies in the shape of characters from the movie ‘Frozen' and the TV series 'Game of Thrones', all you have to do is stop by the Dr. Clotilde P. Garcia Public Library.
“We have monkeys, we have cars,” said Misty Atwood, managing librarian. “Inside each bag you'll see a picture of the cake pan and inside the bag is a cake pan itself.”
Atwood says the library staff was looking for something creative and interactive they could offer families.
"We often find that people reach out to your library for more than just books so we're here to serve in that,” said Atwood.
And if you check out a cake pan, Atwood says you don’t want to miss out checking out a book to help you out.
That way, you can have your cake and eat it too!
“First we hope that they enjoy it we hope that they get a good cake, we hope that they enjoy spending time together,” said Atwood. “We have several books on baking you can learn how to bake from scratch, or you can make your own frosting.”
This is the only public library in Corpus Christi that has cake pans available, but Atwood says you can go to another library in the city or go online and request a hold on the cake pan you want to use.
And get this, the library will ship it out to the nearest library near you.
"Lots of people have come in and they've talked about baking with their daughter or baking with their son and sometimes they even showed us pictures of what they baked," said Atwood.
Cake pans are allowed to be rented out 2 weeks at a time.
The Garcia library holds several free events for families throughout the month.
The Garcia Library will be hosting a Lucha Libre Event on October 26, 2019 at 1:00 P.M.
They’ll be bringing in luchadores from Mexico, showing a movie, and will provide snacks.
