CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — "When the buzzer goes off I can't think of anything,” said Joshuah Carbajal.
At 10 years old, Carbajal earned his first bid ever to go to the USA Roller Sports National Championships this year.
"I felt nervous to go on but then when I did go on it felt like just racing here,” said Carbajal.
And despite only having one arm, Carbajal came back with more than one medal.
"Second in the 300-meter final, placed 3rd in the 700-meter final and I placed 3rd in the 500-meter final for the elementary boys,” said Carbajal.
Back in July Carbajal’s mom reached out to the community, trying to raise enough money for her son to attend nationals in Spokane, Washington. And after weeks of fundraising the family was able to raise $950.
Carbajal and a few of his teammates were able to attend nationals.
“I got first overall,” said Ismael Pena.
"Thanks for everyone who donated to me and help me get down there,” said Carbajal.
Although there were no first place prizes this year, Carbajal says he'll continue to train, each day harder than the last.
