CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Many are still mourning after the mass shootings that took place in El Paso and Dayton, Ohio this month.

Here in South Texas a business owner with close ties to both cities is choosing to send help, raising money through a silent auction and blood drive.

On Saturday the parking lot at Dewey’s Beer Garden will be full of grills making turkey legs, there will be live music and prizes, and it's all to help the victims and families of those affected by the recent tragedies across the country.

“I have a nephew that works in Dayton Ohio at a TV station over there,” said Dave Wilson, owner of Dewey’s. “My cousin also teaches first aid to paramedics in El Paso so it kind of hit home to us.”

Wilson is part of the Corpus Christi Brown Backers, a group of people from Ohio who now live in Texas.

Together Dave and his daughter Jordan Wilson chose to host their first 'Stop the Violence' fundraiser.

“We just felt the need to reach out and help and if it was one of us we would hope the community would come together,” said Wilson.

Golf rounds, helicopter rides, and art will all be auctioned off.

And the Coastal Bend Blood Center will be bringing a bus so people can donate blood.

When a tragedy occurs, they say hospitals across the country send blood off to where it's needed, now they're working to get our local shelves restocked and replenished.

“Anyone that donates blood will get one free turkey leg,” said Wilson.

Although the Wilson’s are Brown Backers in Texas, they hope everyone in the Coastal Bend will join them in helping those who need it most

“We would like to challenge Cowboy and Texans fans to unite with us in this outpouring of humanity,” said Wilson.

The event will be closing with a candlelight vigil at dusk.

The event will be held on Saturday, August 17th, 2019 from 2 PM - 8 PM.
