CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A new downtown business was broken into twice last week. And over the weekend, the owner says there was yet another attempted break-in.

The Phat Keto Co. has only been open for about 3 months. And recent break-ins left the owner Margie Castillo dealing with plenty of financial struggles.

Until an old friend, all the way from Kentucky, heard about her distress.

“I was shocked and upset about it because Margie has worked really hard to get where she is with this business,” said Terry Janelle.

Janelle made the decision to create a GoFundMe page to help Castillo get back on her feet.

“Knowing Margie since junior high I could see on her face and hear in her voice that she was pretty overwhelmed,” said Janelle. “So, I thought well what if we set up a GoFundMe for our other friends and those in the community who like her product.”

The money coming in will help Castillo replace stolen equipment and electronics, it'll help her make necessary repairs, and provide the revenue Castillo may need to continue to pay her staff.

“The community is coming and embracing me and I appreciate that so much and my customers are so awesome,” said Castillo.

Castillo says the most recent scare took place on Sunday, when police responded to a third burglary call in just one week.

Now she's heavily considering putting bars on her windows again, the way it was when she first moved into the location.

“To make it look a little prettier and I think the bars are going to have to go back on,” said Castillo.
