CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — At a glance, you can see the torn boxes, scuffed up furniture and even missing items that Michael Maples says he received from the company he hired to move his belongings from Colorado to Texas.

“I was appalled at what I saw, the boxes that we had packed were crushed, falling apart,” said Maples. “When they were unloading, the boxes were in such bad condition they were taping them as they were bringing them off the truck.”

Maples says he paid a company called Konami Moving and Storage, $6,000 for the move, but that, like everything else, went awry.

“The driver called and says I have your stuff and I will be there tomorrow, and I need $3600 upon delivery,” said Maples. “I was actually told that they're going to hold our household goods as hostage until we did.”

Maples said he ended up having to fork over $3600 more to finally get ahold of his furniture and personal items.

“We had the money, we met the movers and the movers did not speak English, they were Russian,” said Maples. “The tape was physically cut as somebody had opened them and looked through because we're missing a number of items.”

Now he's trying to file an insurance claim with the company, but he says they refuse to answer his messages anymore.

He says even if the company does not attempt to make things right, he at least wants to warn people, so they don't go through what he did

“Thirty-nine years’ worth of sentimental items that have been treated like garbage,” said Maples.

KZTV attempted to reach out to Konami Moving and Storage but has not heard back.
