CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — While most people spend Thanksgiving with close friends and family, John Gutierrez says he knows there are people who don't have a place to go for the holidays.

“There's a lot of people out there who don't have family, a lot of people out there who are on the streets or who can't afford a meal,” said Gutierrez.

So, this year, he's gathered a few friends to host a meal for about one thousand people at Julio’s Café.

“Maybe their families couldn't come down because of the weather maybe they're just not able to make it,” said Mickie Ochoa. “I want them to come over here because we are family.”

There are 41 turkeys on the rotisserie right now, they'll be cooking for 8 to 12 hours and then they'll be ready to feed folks for Thanksgiving in Beeville

Gutierrez says his goal is to feed as many people in need, no questions asked.

“I saw a homeless guy one day and every time I see him I give him money, about two Sundays ago I saw him again and I said 'Hey I’m going to be feeding the needy and less fortunate on Thanksgiving Day’ and he looked at me and said ‘I’m finally going to have a hot meal thank you’,” said Gutierrez. “And it hit me hard and I’m glad we are able to do this.”

So, whether it's a money issue or you just want company, Gutierrez says come on down.

“There will be dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, bread whatever you see at a thanksgiving feast will be on this plate tomorrow,” said Gutierrez.

The Thanksgiving Day dinner will be hosted on November 28, 2019 at Julio's Cafe located at 407 N Adams St, Beeville, TX 78102 from 2 PM to 4 PM .
