CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Organizers with the Chavarria Boxing Club make great efforts to train and teach young kids about boxing.

However, the club is missing a key component to their training, a boxing ring.

Help from the community would be greatly needed.

Before each fight, proper training in the gym is a crucial step in gaining a win but that also goes hand-in-hand with the proper equipment.

Endurance, heart, and passion are just some of the few things you can find in these young athletes at Chavarria's Boxing Club.

Head coach Ernesto Chavarria says instead of the streets this gym is a safe place for these kids to train.

“You set the example hopefully to them so they can become better kids better citizens you know what I mean,” says coach Ernesto Chavarria.

Chavarria’s passion is to give back to the community just like how the community gave to him when he was young.

These young boxers have the skills but the only thing they are missing is their very own ring.

“Before I came here I wasn't really a fighter and when I came here he taught me how to fight like now I know I can fight and defend myself,” says boxer Juan Cavazos.

The young boxers say this sport helps them build confidence and more.

Therefore, a ring will help them with their footwork, sparring, and technique.

“I just have a drive and I'm always active and I want to have bigger, I want my dreams to scare me so I can set goals for my future,” says young athlete Maria Hinojosa.

Their passion for the sport drives them to achieve what they want in life.

And they say that's worth fighting for.
