Former Houston Texans receiver Demaryius Thomas pleaded guilty to careless driving charges.

Thomas was involved in a single-vehicle rollover car crash in which a passenger suffered “serious bodily injuries” in Denver on Feb. 16. He was later arrested and on charges of vehicular assault, driving without proof of insurance and reckless driving.

The reckless driving charge was dropped.  He was sentenced to probation and 50 hours of community service.

“Many people reached out after my accident and I want to thank everyone who has been supportive of my recovery,” Thomas said in a statement received by KDVR television in Denver.

“It was important for me to accept responsibility for my careless driving. I personally promise I will never again put anyone at risk with that type of driving going forward.”

The NFL has not handed down any punishment, but typically does in these kinds of cases.

Thomas was released by the Texans on Feb. 12 and is currently a free agent.

Thomas, 31, played for the Texans for the end of the 2018 season after spending the previous eight seasons with the Broncos.  He notched 99 receiving yards on seven receptions with the Texans before he sustained a season-ending Achilles injury in a Week 16 loss at Philadelphia on Dec. 23.

He has produced 672 receptions for 9,154 yards and 62 receiving touchdowns during his career. The former Georgia Tech standout is a five-time Pro Bowler who was a member of the Broncos’ 2015 Super Bowl championship team.
