With the temperature expected to drop, the Mother Teresa shelter is taking steps to help the homeless.
The shelter located on 513 Sam Rankin Street in Corpus Christi, is only open during the day, but before they closed for the day, volunteers handed out winter accessories.
People visiting the shelter were able to pick out gloves, jackets, sweaters, beanies, and everyday clothing like jeans from a pile of donations.
“People donated this whole month,” says Sister Rency Moonjely. “They donated a lot of jackets, coats, gloves, and beanies.”
The shelter says on regular days they see about 150 homeless people, those numbers increase when it gets cold.
The shelter opens from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. anyone needing a place to escape the cold or need warm clothing are welcome to stop by.
