Huerta’s Tamales is a South Texas staple.  Sadly the popular tamale shop announced they will soon be closing their doors.
Jose and Maria Huerta started their business in 1992 to support their 10 kids but now that the children are grown, the Huertas say it’s time for mom and dad to take a break.
In the span of those twenty-five hardworking years the family has won several awards and met tons of people.

“We were going to last year but they did one last push, and finally…you know it just happened to be that it was time for them,” said  Lourdes Huerta who works at the shop.

“It means a lot to be able to come here I’m here with family I’m able not just share with them my day but they share with me their day and it’s just great, it’s just like coming in and talking to my tio and my tia,” said Cynthia Franco, long-time customer.

The tamale shop will close for the last time on December 31st.
